I developed a heightened sense of awareness as I often patrolled the mountain district alone.
Without realizing it, I began to read the energy of the suspects and criminals when responding to calls. I paid attention to their body language, their eye movements, and how they spoke.
This awareness developed for my own personal safety as the nearest backup car was sometimes an hour away.
In a matter of seconds, I would have to determine who was lying, who was telling the truth, or who intended to harm me.
Any good cop has a sixth sense they often call a 'gut feeling'. I call it intuition.
That intuition snowballed one night when a suspect with a felony warrant rolled his vehicle and fled the scene into the darkness.
